A look at the Canadian Federal Election

In Canada the Federal Liberal party has declared that a Federal election is going to be held on September 20th of this year. When going out to vote in this next federal election I want people to select who they vote for carefully the current Liberal party has been accused of corruption with its various scandal's from We Charity which lead to the resignation of finance minister Bill Morneau and the SNC Lavalin scandal which lead to the resignation of Jody Wilson Raybould.
I first want to highlight the major accomplishments of the Federal Liberal party and let you decide for yourself if these accomplishments resonate with you and want to continue down the current path. The first major accomplishment for the Federal Liberal party was the legalization of Cannabis which yes it is true that it can treat some things like epilepsy and anxiety but like with anything you smoke is not healthy for you. Cannabis can also be highly addictive to the user and can be difficult to try and get off of much like it is difficult to get off of smoking cigarette's on a daily basis and shares the consequence of developing lung cancer from each method.
Another large accomplishment by the Liberal party of Canada is developing a plan to fight against climate change. The did this by introducing a national carbon tax on all the provinces and territories in hopes of making carbon more expensive so that more people will turn towards finding greener alternatives like buying electric cars which is something I will cover in a future You Tube video. Also part of his plan to reduce climate change is that he announced that Canada would ban the sale of fuel burning cars and light trucks in order to achieve the goal of Zero net emissions in Canada by 2050.
One of the biggest issues which may become part of the Federal election will be about the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. Canada announced that it would evacuate the family's and interpreters who assisted the Canadian armed forces during the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 supporting the United States and its allies and withdrew its combat forces in 2014. The plan fell apart almost right away with the fall of Kabul and the Taliban beginning to block the roads to the airport which was the only way a person could actually escape. The government did manage to send military planes to help with the evacuations but it ended to quickly which can be blamed on failing to come up with a plan to withdraw people who assisted the Canadian armed forces when it became clear that the Afghan government was near collapse.
It is also known that now that the Canadian evacuation airlift ending that some people were unfortunately left behind according to an article by the CBC. To add to this being an argument now that the Taliban effectively control the entire nation is will the Canadian government recognize the Taliban as the new official government of Afghanistan. So far the only candidate to openly come out that he would not recognize a Taliban government is Jagmeet Singh who said he would not recognize the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan. I don't know the position of the other political leaders running for the job of Prime Minister on whether or not that they would recognize the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan.
The biggest issue that will be talked about over and over again is how the current Federal government has handled the issue of COVID 19. The current global pandemic has hit the Canadian economy hard with provinces introducing and lifting COVID restrictions like forcing restaurants to close their doors to in person dining and offering takeout. It has also lead to the loss of jobs with some businesses going completely under like the gym I used to work out at was unable to recover from being shut down due to it being a small gym and competing against another gym in my area. The federal government has mostly been absent from the reopening of provinces and territories just like an article from the senate of Canada suggests they did however introduce the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit ( CERB) which gave people a source of income after businesses were forced to close due to lockdowns. There was also the failure of the federal government to stop air travel coming in from nations such as India and Pakistan who would experience a nasty wave of COVID-19 from the lack of restrictions for traveling abroad.
A moderate issue that will be discussed is how to deal with climate change some parties like the Green party of Canada want to see the oil industry of Canada abolished. I wont provide my own opinions about why this is a bad idea as this piece is only highlighting some important issues. All Canadian political parties acknowledge the idea of human climate change for example, the Maverick party who is a western separatist party wants to do away with the current plan of having a carbon tax and instead look at what we already have. The things we do have is Nuclear energy, carbon capture technology and geothermal technology as another alternative to producing energy. The Conservative party of Canada's climate change plan is similar to what we have in continuing to put more zero emission cars on the road but would introduce low carbon savings account but I am not sure how they would actually fund them.
It is difficult to tell which party will win the election some polls have the Conservatives winning a minority government while other one's suggested that the Liberals would form a majority government now down to a minority government. What is clear is that any party that is in the top position the Liberal's, Conservatives. and New Democrat party although unlikely to win could form a government. When it comes time to cast your vote decide which party best fits the issues that are the most concern to you and don't forget to do your research on the candidates.
