An Opinion on YouTube Creators

I received an email recently from a forum I follow asking the question What is wrong with YouTube? and he got an interesting reply from another user. This user argued that most content creators on YouTube only care about getting views on their videos and are more interested in making money than creating valuable content. He also came up with an example of a famous YouTuber who cared about his audience rather then just making money off of the YouTube algorithm and calling him the Keanu Reeves of YouTube. Some of you know he is a famous actor who seems to be trustworthy and kind.
Personally I don't really care about any of the famous YouTubers and really only watch YouTube if I need advice or need a visual representation of something that I need assistance with. I have an opinion on why youtubers want to make money on YouTube and why his description of this famous Youtuber is flawed.
Video and audio quality make a huge difference in being discovered on YouTube because if you don't have any of these things present on your channel you will find yourself hanging out near the bottom of the pack in a crowded platform. To make up for some of these costs or to even bring your channel to the next level you will need to invest money into it which is why a content creator would be focused on getting a return and would do this through monetization of their channel or through other avenues.
The first thing I would argue is that pretty much every content creator on YouTube is out to make some sort of revenue from posting to the Social Media site. Uploading videos on to YouTube may be free to do but it also will cost you money to even produce videos. The first thing that will cost you is the equipment, true you could just use your phone to record video and upload it directly to You Tube but you risk your picture quality not being up to par with the other channels plus your audio could be bad quality. So in order to counter this you need to find video editing software to help correct the problem of bad video and audio quality. You could use free video editing software such as, Hit Film express, Davinci resolve or the video editing software that is already pre installed on your computer but you will face limitations on what you can do with it. Some limitations you will face is not being able to export your newly created video in 4k resolution or you will face limitations on what you can do to improve the visual quality of your video. In order to do this you would need to get a subscription to high end video software like Adobe pro or just buy the package with your own money such as Sony Vegas.
As for this particular persons arguments about only caring about views, yes they are important in order to figure out which of your videos are trending or the overall health of your channel. However, the other side of the argument is content creators create videos to appeal to a broad audience in order to attract subscribers. I myself run a YouTube channel which shares the same name as this website which include links to my channel and Facebook page. My videos typically don't receive a ton of views partially because I am just a beginner and only started this back in April but also I have not figured out a way to get people to pay more attention to what occurs in the political world. So because I know this information already views don't really play much of a role but how others engage with my content does. It matters to me for a few reasons the first one is that it helps me improve my content so that others can enjoy it. The second part is that some of these people who engage with my content could become a fanbase and spread my channel to their friends.
As for his comment about this person having the personality of Keanu Reeves I would be careful on that one as this person most likely does not know this content creator personally. A role of any person that wants to make it big is to have a personality that people will respond to for example, the Kardashian's who always seem to be in the news for divorcing their husbands or for some other reason such as posting sexy pictures of themselves on social media. I don't know the Kardashian's personally but I do know they are doing these things for attention in the media in order to make some sort of income from it. A person who comes to mind that lost their fame is an actor from the Terminator who no one really remembers at all named Robert Patrick. The reason I would argue that nobody remembers him is that he did not have a Hollywood personality that people find interesting and alluring. However, it is difficult to tell whether the celebrities actually have the personalities that people claim they have without access to their personal life.
Yes I agree with this person's statement that content creators on YouTube are to make money but disagree that this You Tuber that he mentions in his response is not out to make money or has the personality described. In order to be successful on the platform as I have argued you have to be able to spend some money to get started and you don't really know the personalities of youtubers that his argument is flawed.

I suspect that YouTube is more complicated than suggested above. Yes, some hope to make money off of the platform, but I see a lot of content where it appears the poster had no long term goal of monetizing the post. For example, an amateur choir sharing their music or a children's summer camp director reaching out to the kids who couldn't attend because of Covid cancellations by uploading a 90 second nature talk. Others may post to support their business by offering how to vids. And for others yet, it's just a creative outlet. I don't have data to back it up, and YouTube probably doesn't share that data, but I think the vast majority of posts fit into…
