Why a Liberal majority government is scary

If you have been following the news from all the political party's of Canada you would hear that they are expecting the Liberal party to call a fall Federal election and have been gearing up for it. As the title suggests the Liberal Party of Canada in my opinion has not been doing all that well to improve the lives of Canadians or really anything except smoking weed and forgetting the rest. The polls tell a different story and show the Liberal party up in the polls which could help them form a majority one reason that they would want to hold a Federal Election. But I want people to think critically about the Liberal government whether you agree with my opinion of getting nothing done or you think that they are the best thing that has ever happened to Canada.

Let us start with some of the good things that the Liberal government has done and some of the consequences of those actions. The Liberal Party of Canada has introduced a national carbon tax which drives up the cost of using fossil fuel and drives down the cost of using green renewable energy which still relies on the use of oil to create the mechanical components to hold green energy. This is a good idea in the long run in that it will hopefully reduce the effects of climate change which is starting to show itself more and more these day's but the disadvantage could be global instability especially if the end goal is to get rid of the use of oil.

The two largest oil producers in the world right now are Saudi Arabia and Russia who are both very dependent on the selling of oil globally which affects their economies heavily if the price of oil falls. Russia has an advantage over Saudi Arabia in that it is bigger and could find other resources to sell to the global economy but it does not mean there won't be some unrest in Russia around the expulsion of oil from around the globe. Russia unlike the western world and western European nations has done very little to move away from an oil-centric economy which of course helped them break free from many years of being controlled by the communist party.

Saudi Arabia a nation in the middle east has become rich from the sale of oil around the globe especially to the United States but has to deal with a volatile region already. The middle east is plagued by different conflicts from terrorist groups to nations fighting civil wars. This is one reason that Saudi Arabia spends so much on acquiring military equipment from the west is for national security. Just look at the conflict going on in Yemen between the rebels and the government which started in 2014 and is continuing to rage on to this very day. The war that is going on in Yemen is mostly about who is the official government with other middle east nations wanting to take advantage of the situation by supporting the other side. Without oil, Saudi Arabia would not have the wealth to purchase the equipment it needs to protect itself, and having very few other resources to offer to the world would descend into chaos and destabilize the middle east more.

The next thing the Liberal government has done right is to listen to the indigenous community who are feeling neglected after many years of being mistreated. The indigenous community has been fighting for years to recognize their land claims and for the government of Canada to acknowledge that the past policies around residential schools should be added to Canada's dark history of mistreatment. But to do this First Nation's people protested and disrupted the Canadian economy by blocking railroads for months driving up the cost of shipping and putting people out of work. The Liberal government acted too slow to deal with the protestors although they did listen to what they wanted it exposed a flaw in Canada that if a foreign power with hostile intent could spread misinformation and even hire protestors with full deniability and even impact US security.

What is scary about having a Liberal majority government in Canada is its long list of scandals such as the We charity scandal and its attempt to pass the controversial Bill C-10. If you have read my post about Bill C-10 you would figure out it was an attempt by the Liberal government to regulate what Canadians could post to social media. As you know concerns are popping up around social media of groups using the platform to spread hate speech and provide misinformation to the public. You have to go no further than the capital riots when former President Donald Trump claimed the election was rigged and incited mass protests that lead to the deaths of six people. The other thing this would have done is brought regulation down on people who want to use the platform for creative purposes such as publishing their music and destroying creativity.

The major concern about the Liberal party staying in power is that it currently running a 19.8 billion dollar deficit thanks to the election of the Liberal party which is bad for many reasons. First, the government is borrowing money from elsewhere to pay for their expenses which is similar to taking a loan out of the bank that Canada has to pay back at some point. Federal deficits also have an effect on interest rates which they would have to increase to keep the amount that they need to pay back at a manageable level. The last reason is growing inflation to the point that the currency of your nation could become worthless through the printing of more money and also raising the costs of everyday items.

It is clear if the Liberal Party of Canada were to win another majority government they would be left unchecked and be able to pass controversial legislation without consulting anyone. It also seems that the Liberal party does not think about the long-term consequences when passing legislation and does not consult with anyone like forgetting the economic impact of switching rapidly to green energy. To fix that problem although it has been attempted by the Paris accord to get the world to do more to fight climate change nations such as China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia need to be negotiated with. So when you go out and vote ask yourself do you want a Liberal government or does another party has a better plan of action.

You can't possibly sum up all that the Liberals did well or poorly in a four minute blog. However, what I find scariest is their consistent attacks on freedom of conscience, which is manifested primarily through freedom of speech. Bill C-10 is an example of that. There is also the youth summer jobs funding program where applicants were required to state their agreement with the Liberal's view on abortion and sexuality, and their plans to require media providers to obtain a Liberal approved license in order to publish their work in Canada. They do these things in the name of tax fairness, social good, stopping hate speech, creating space that is safe from words that someone might be offended by,…
